Installing widgets

Installing a widget from the Workshop adds it to your account so you can place it on any overlay. It works just like a built-in Primitive once it's installed.

Install a widget​

  1. Open Widget Workshop from the sidebar.
  2. Find a widget — browse the curated rows or search by name or category.
  3. Click the widget to open its detail page, then click Install.

That's it. The widget is added to your account immediately — no overlay reload, nothing to download.

Place it on an overlay​

  1. Open an overlay in the Overlay Editor.
  2. Click Add Widget and switch to the Custom widgets tab.
  3. Pick your installed widget and drop it onto the canvas.
  4. Configure it in the properties panel on the right — every widget exposes its own controls (colours, sizes, text, and so on).

Position and size it like any other widget. It renders live in OBS through your overlay's browser source.

Updates​

Widgets update automatically. When the author publishes a new version, your live overlays pick it up — there's no version to choose and nothing to re-install. You always run the latest published version.

This means a widget can change without you doing anything. If a widget you rely on starts behaving differently, it's because the author published an update.

Install limits​

On free plans there's a cap on how many widgets you can have installed at once. The Workshop shows a meter (for example Installs: 3 / 10). When you reach the limit:

  • Uninstall a widget you're not using, or
  • Upgrade your plan for a higher limit.

Your own widgets and the built-in Primitives don't count toward the limit.

Uninstall a widget​

Uninstall from the widget's card or detail page in the Workshop. When you do:

  • It disappears from the Custom widgets tab in the Overlay Editor.
  • Any placements of it in your overlays stop rendering (they go blank rather than erroring).

Your overlay layout is preserved, so if you reinstall the widget later, those placements come back to life.

Private widgets​

Some widgets aren't in the public gallery. If a creator gave you a share code (CW-XXXXX), you can install it directly — see Share codes.
